Teaching Kids About $ Moola $

I think that this is a topic that our generation and every generation before us got gypped. I am not blaming it on our parents, cause they didn't learn it in the home either. I am a lot more aware of things that I want to teach my children as I grow. This is a great article that helps you break the topic of money, savings, value etc. down to children's ages and helps you see what you can be teaching and letting them experience them even as young as 1-2 years old.

I love any article that helps us take big topics and break it down into stages for parents and makes learning fun. Enjoy!

Argh Maties

Booty Call ….Whoo! Whoo! Oh. I mean Booty Re-Call

Shiver me timbers! This just in! Candy company recalls pirate foil-coin wrapped candy just in time for Halloween. Check your maties bags for these and toss them into old Davy Jones’s Locker. And when your little Buccaneers are up in arms and ask, "Blimey! Who be you to take away me booty? Blaggard!" Make it up to them by throwin' in an extra ration of grog and grub for the night :-)

Best Way to Donate?

Below are some links and resources for you to read and really try to understand the implications of Proposition8 and the ramifications of same-gender marriages. I still try to understand how and why our world has gotten so backwards. But the time was told when good will be called evil and evil be called good. Even though it is hard for me to understand I do realize that it is my duty as a "mother" and family member to stand for truth and fight for righteousness and freedom.

I truly believe that we have been held back to come forth in a time where our strength as Children of God would be tested beyond comprehension and our faith tested to the very end. If we stay silent and ignorant we forfeit not only blessings that come to the faithful and righteous but we forfeit the opportunity that could have come to us if we would but stand for something! When you are involved in a purpose greater than your own you grow and mature spiritually in indescribable ways . God is on our side. In the end Truth will prevail but it is our chance now to show our faith and strength and protect the family, protect the innocence of our children and fight for Truth.

Below are some resource links and one video (thanks, Heather and Robert). There are also many ways to volunteer. Join Facebook groups like "Protect California Marriage". Commit to being a volunteer through organizations like http://www.protectmarriage.com/volunteer, your Church, community etc. Seek out ways to be involved, there are many!

I have one question for you. We have been asked to impart of our means and time in any way that we can give to help protect the family and fight against Prop8. If we were to donate on our tithing slips, which would be the category that you would donate to? Or is there another way that is better? I challenge all of us to donate our funds and time to fight this battle. It's only the beginning. Now is the time to commit to stand for something and have your actions back up your words.

What are some other ways that that you have found we can fight in the battle?

New idea for getting the low down from your kiddos

The standard question of “How did your day go?” or “What did you do today?” not surprisingly gets little response from kids and spouses alike so why do we keep asking the same old thing? One thing I have realized in my own life is that if I want different results, I need to try a different approach to whatever it is that I am trying to accomplish.

I read a cute article from the “Dream Team Disney” today that gave a fresh twist on how to really spark conversation with your family.

One family faced with the same old answers of “fine” or “nothing” began a game. The game is called What’s Hot and What’s Not. In essence the kids just related to this more on their level and began to take their responses seriously and gave a lot of thought to what they wanted to share about their lives and feelings. They said a couple of things that happened that day that was “hot” or good or cool or whatever and a couple of things that were “not” so hot or fun or cool. Like how one of the boy’s friends got into a fight at school and he felt stuck in the middle of his two friend's fight. Or how the little girl was really nervous to memorize and recite a poem for class…or whatever. Even the parents chip in and share with the kids the good things and bad things that happened in their day…within reason of course!

Instead of mom trying to pull teeth for conversation the family actually had things to talk about and it gave mom a much more rich view of their kids and their experiences. She says they play all of the time: in the car, home from Church, at dinner, on trips.

So, I am going to play too, even if no one else does :-)

What’s Hot? And What’s Not?

Today’s Hots:

I am in a good mood today even though I didn’t get much sleep

I took a walk and enjoyed the sunshine

I am looking forward for a long weekend (because of Pioneer Day here)

Today’s Not’s:

I forgot my lunch and I am starving

I just ate a candy bar for lunch…maybe on a different day that would be a Hot :-)

I have a few errands to run and don’t want to

What is your Hot and Not for the day? Do you think it sounds like something you will try out at home?
