Just Humor Me....

When ever you go to a restaurant (or at home) and you ask/get something on the side like salad dressing, butter, sour cream etc., why do you do this? Do you end up using all of it any way? Is it a way to still get the flavor but not intake as many calories? Is it just a habit? Why did you develop the habit?......

Like I said I really want you to humor me. Really take a moment to think about the psychological reasoning behind his. (I do it too so you will get my answer later.) I want to hear from you. I am doing a study of sorts and I think you all can provide some great feedback. Thanks!

When I've done this, which hasn't been often- it's been for one of two reasons.
1- I'm not sure I'll like the taste of the dressing and I do not want to have it ruin everything, so I get it on the side just in case.
2- I'm hoping for more- I've eaten at the place before and they've only put a dab on whatever it is- so I get more hoping they'll actually give me a taste of the stuff! This is especially true for salsa or guacamole.

I do it for a few reasons first is to make sure I actually like whatever it is they are putting on there. Second is to monitor the amount, there is no reason I need a quarter cup of dressing all over a side salad. Third is to monitor calories, this is separate from issue two. Lastly Things very so much from one place to another that asking for something on the side allows you to make sure you're getting what you want.

I almost never ask for dressing on the side. I do at Mimi's Cafe, and this is simply because they always put WAY too much dressing on my salad. When I ask for it on the side I can monitor how much goes on.

I am not concerned in any way shape or form about calories. You know me better than that.

I ask butter and dressing on the side because I hate when they load it on there! I don't ever use it all! But Mitch eats my extra stuff right up.
